Check the building before the air-test appointment
A practical checklist for site managers and trades preparing a dwelling or building for an air-permeability test.
Work through the envelope, openings, services, temporary conditions, power, safety and documentation before confirming that the unit is ready.
This checklist supports preparation but does not define the formal test condition or replace the tester's instructions and applicable standard. The correct treatment of intentional ventilation openings, traps, flues and temporary works depends on the test method and building. Contact the tester before making assumptions.
Progress is saved only in this browser. Passing this checklist does not guarantee a test result.
How to use this tool

Use this during a site walk-through
The checklist helps a site team organise pre-test preparation. It is not an air test and cannot predict or guarantee a result. Walk the actual dwelling with the relevant drawings and a person who can verify the work. Follow the appointed tester’s instructions for preparation and safety.
1. Check the envelope
Review external doors, windows, hatches and access panels. Check that they are installed and can be closed as intended. Inspect the air-barrier line rather than assuming a finished surface proves that hidden work is complete. Tick an item only after it has been checked.
2. Review service penetrations
Check plumbing, electrical routes, wastes, incoming services and penetrations that will become hidden by boxing, baths or kitchen units. If a check cannot be completed, leave it unticked and agree who will verify or remedy it. Do not use the checklist as a substitute for inspecting the relevant detail.
3. Agree test preparation
Review ventilation terminals, flues and temporary openings with the tester. Preparation must reflect the test procedure, not temporary measures intended to conceal defects. Ensure the dwelling is safe and accessible and the required internal access is available.
4. Prepare the handover
Have the drawings, plot reference and site contact ready. The progress display counts checked items and highlights the next unchecked item so you can move through the list. All checked means the checklist has been completed—not that the building has passed a test.
Saved progress, resetting and support
Progress is saved in this browser only. Recheck it if site conditions change, when you move to another plot, or when another person uses the device. Clear checklist resets the ticks. This tool does not issue a PDF test certificate. For software issues or improvement ideas, email toolsuite@briary.co.uk; arrange actual testing separately with the appointed tester.
